"They were not interested in my knowledge but my attitude towards the situation"
I am Abhishek Baldua, currently pursuing my Postgraduation course specialized in Finance at MATS Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (MIME). I have been placed at Ernst & Young (EY) – Global Delivery Services (GDS). When I joined MIME, it was never about learning new things every day. But, it was about using that learnt knowledge in your real-life and work-life. The pre-placement talk, seminars and the workshops conducted by MIME were really helpful for me to achieve my ultimate aim, which was to start my career with a globally-known company.
It would never have been possible without the help of the Director, Faculty and the Placement Cell. They were always ready to help us in terms of getting placed and getting us groomed in every respect. For example, for the Group Discussion, they had prepared the appropriate environment and provided us with the best faculty for the aptitude sessions. It was a wonderful experience to have the placement cell help us learn new things, and open new doors to us. The training that the placement cell and the faculty of MIME had given me were really helpful. There were totally 5 rounds – an aptitude test, a group discussion, and 3 interview rounds; 1 with the HR and 2 with the managers.
The interviews with the HR and the managers were very important. The best part of my interview process was the interview with the managers. They made me feel like I don’t know anything even though I was giving the right answers. But what I noticed is that they were testing my levels of confidence and nervousness and how I would face the situation. I understood that they were not interested in my knowledge but my attitude towards the situation.
The message I want to convey to my juniors and to the future students of MIME is that you have to come out of your comfort zone. Everybody tells you, that you have to come out of your comfort zone to gain success. But I think that you have to come out of your comfort zone, just to expand its boundaries, because this is a continuous process. Every single day you have to learn new things so that every day, you are coming out of your comfort zone, expanding it, and applying the acquired knowledge in your real life, which will be helpful to you. MIME is truly a very good platform for you if you want to achieve and succeed in your career.
