MATS Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (MIME) organised a workshop on ‘Innovation and Design Thinking’ on 9th September 2023 for the students of Semester III PGDM 2022-24. The idea behind the workshop was to educate the students on blending the conceptual knowledge of Innovation and Design Thinking into real organisational practices. The objective was to understand how innovation leads the process of design thinking.

The workshop was conducted by Mr. Subin Muraleedharan, Organisation Development Consultant associated with Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), a London based philanthropic organisation addressing pressing global challenges like climate change. Aiding him was Mr. Murali Rao, a seasoned technology advisor to startups with over 20 years of experience in leadership roles.

The workshop focused on the importance and the requisite of design thinking in organisations. The students were given the idea about evolution and concept of design thinking, Business Problem Vs Human Problem, steps in design thinking, quality, inventions and innovation. The speakers shared case studies of successful organisations that utilised design thinking like Netflix, IBM, Google, Apple, etc. The students got exposure to the design thinking process and were asked to create a prototype of a mobile application by applying innovation.

The workshop was a resounding success among the students, who appreciated the opportunity to learn from industry experts.
